Two Weeknights

In my Morrisania community, it is fairly quiet. However, everything changes on Friday and Saturday nights. Many teenagers in the buildings always congregate together and go crazy. Many of them have nothing to do. As a result, I always hear gunshots, fights, and violence that often lead into police intervention.

One Saturday night, someone on the 3rd floor threw a party. Her parties always attract teens from the building as well as those that are from elsewhere. I can hear the loud reggaeton and hip-hop songs every Saturday night. Around 11 o'clock at night, these teens head outside the building to smoke and do drugs. Many of them just act crazy and act very stupid when they are outside.

On this night, a group of teenagers were screaming, "fuck these projects!" As a result, many of our local teens heard that and challenged the cocky group. A fight broke out as I was brushing my teeth. About 20 police officers ran to the scene along with ten cop cars and detectives. But after 15 minutes, the block was calm as it is at other times.

I hope that many teens find something to do on Saturday nights, such as spending time with their families. With families together, we can have a better neighborhood.
